Historic District Advisory Committee Meeting

As part of our preservation advocacy work, the Chestnut Hill Conservancy maintains a Historic District Advisory Committee (HDAC) comprised of preservation, architecture, planning and development professionals. The HDAC addresses issues raised during the community’s design review process, particularly as they affect the Chestnut Hill National Register Historic District. The boundaries of this District roughly correlate to the 19118 zip code in the City of Philadelphia. The HDAC has been the Chestnut Hill Conservancy’s agent as a Recognized Community Organization since 2012.

The HDAC meets at 6:30 PM on the 1st Thursday of every month at Chestnut Hill Conservancy. These meetings are open to the public.

Upper Northwest District Plan Public Meeting

Presented by members of the Conservancy, the Chestnut Hill Community Association, and other involved organizations.

A special community meeting will take place on Monday, July 23rd, 6: 00 pm, at Chestnut Hill Hospital, 8835 Germantown Avenue, to present and review the draft District Plan and gather comments for submission to the Planning Commission. The draft plan now available online at www.phila2035.org/upper-northwest. The public comment period starts on July 17 and ends just after Labor Day, September 4.

Members of the Chestnut Hill Community Association’s Development Review Committee, the Chestnut Hill Conservancy, Chestnut Hill Business District, Friends of the Wissahickon, and other involved organizations will be at this meeting to review the plan with community members, answer questions, and take feedback regarding the draft plan. The draft plan includes items that will affect Chestnut Hill such as zoning changes, supporting historic preservation efforts throughout the district, and planning for transit-oriented development along the Chestnut Hill East and Chestnut Hill West rail lines.

Plan Development Process
The third and final public meeting was held on June 18 at the new Lovett Library on, where 185 attendees interacted with PCPC staff to learn about the recommendations. The Philadelphia City Planning Commission will be using the feedback from the meeting to improve and refine the Draft Plan. On July 17 the City Planning Commission posted the draft online and will receive comments officially until September 4. On September 18, they will present the final Plan to the City Planning Commission at its open public meeting for adoption. The presentation will include a summary of changes made during the comment period. Once the Commission adopts the plan, it becomes part of Philadelphia2035, the City’s comprehensive plan.

The Upper Northwest District Plan is part of Philadelphia2035, a project that begin in 2011 as a collaborative effort to establish long-term and comprehensive goals for the growth and development of the City of Philadelphia, with topics ranging from transportation, housing, the preservation of parks and open spaces, environmental resources, to historical preservation.

Philadelphia2035 is made up of 18 District Plans, covering all corners of Philadelphia. At the heart of the Upper Northwest District Plan lies our community of Chestnut Hill.
