Discovering Chestnut Hill: WPA Structures in the Wissahickon Walking Tour – SOLD OUT!

June 24, 2021 | 5:30 pm-6:30 pm

$10.00 – $20.00

WPA Structures in the Wissahickon Walking Tour
June 24 at 5:30pm, SOLD OUT!

Robert Thomas, AIA, is our guide for an in-person walking tour in Wissahickon Park as a sequel to Kate Cowing’s fascinating talk on “WPA Structures in the Wissahickon” sponsored by the Conservancy in collaboration with Friends of the Wissahickon.  The 2.3-mile trail walk will start at Historic Rittenhousetown, follow trails along the east side of the Creek to Blue Bell Hill and the Kitchens Lane bridge, and return via Forbidden Drive.  Along the way, we’ll see exemplary buildings of this New Deal initiative, including guard boxes, a picnic shelter, and a comfort station.

Bob is a founding partner of Campbell Thomas & Co. Architects, noted for its work in historic preservation, energy-conscious design, community development and greenways.  He serves on a long list of local non-profit boards and commissions including the Philadelphia Parks Alliance and Philadelphia Historical Commission, and has led countless walking and cycling tours of historic places.  He has been exploring the Wissahickon since early childhood.

Sturdy shoes and familiarity with hilly terrain are recommended for this moderate level walk.
