As stewards of the land, Erdenheim Farm is dedicated to safeguarding the legacy of historic structures and a sprawling green expanse. This is a testament to the commitment to preserving pastoral life in the greater Philadelphia area. Touching the northwest corner of the city and once considered to be within Chestnut Hill, Erdenheim Farm encompasses 470 acres and is home to about 570 animals: cattle, sheep, donkeys, horses, chickens, and rare goats.
During this special 90-minute walking tour, Dan, Erdenheim Farm’s esteemed manager, will guide you through the historic Horace Trumbauer designed Sheep Barn, where dozens of young lambs are frolicking about and climbing upon their mothers. Tour attendees will also learn about the chickens, composting, livestock guardian dogs, and a fascinating preservation project featuring the Arapawa goat, a centuries-old endangered species that, for a time, was only found on a single island near New Zealand.
Witness ongoing efforts to expand their population, with Erdenheim Farm playing a crucial role in their conservation.
